Nuclear CVs are read by people who know the work. That is an advantage if the document is specific, and a problem if it is not. Almost every CV we see is stronger than it appears, because the things a reviewer needs are present but buried.
Somewhere in the chain a chartered engineer or a head of safety will read this. They are not scanning for buzzwords. They are working out whether you have done the specific thing they need doing.
Before that, most applications pass through a tracking system. Heavy formatting, columns and text inside graphics routinely get mangled, and a strong candidate disappears without anyone reading a word.
For many roles the hiring manager has to justify the appointment against a formal requirement. Give them the evidence to do that and you make saying yes easy.
Five things, checked roughly in this sequence, usually inside the first thirty seconds. If the first two are not obvious, the other three rarely get read.
Two people with the same title can be a decade apart in real accountability. The first thing a reviewer hunts for is what you personally owned, decided and signed off.
PWR, BWR, AGR, CANDU, VVER, HTGR. Naming the technology you worked on is the fastest way for a reviewer to judge whether your experience transfers to their site.
Design, construction, commissioning, operations, outage, defuelling, decommissioning. The same discipline behaves completely differently at each stage.
Which regulator assessed your work and under what framework. Experience under one regime does not automatically read across to another, and reviewers check this early.
Whether the submission was accepted, the system was commissioned, the outage completed. Activity without outcome is the most common gap on an otherwise strong CV.
The verb you attach to a piece of work tells a nuclear reviewer exactly where you sat in the chain. Choosing the wrong one is the single most common reason a technically strong person fails a panel.
Be accurate rather than generous. Nuclear is small enough that claims get checked, and overstating scope is far more damaging than stating a modest one clearly.
This order works because it front loads the things a reviewer checks first. Each section earns the next one being read.
Name, location, contact, nationality or right to work where it is relevant to the roles you are targeting. Keep it to three lines. Reviewers should never hunt for this.
Discipline, years, plant types, lifecycle stages and regimes. This is the single highest value paragraph on the document and most people waste it on adjectives.
The specific things you can do, named the way the industry names them. Safety case authoring, criticality assessment, outage planning, remote handling. Not soft skills.
For each role: the organisation, the plant or programme, the technology, your actual scope, and the outcome. Three to six bullets each, weighted towards the last ten years.
Degrees, chartership, professional body membership, and any formal authorisations you hold. State the awarding body and the year.
Only where they are load bearing for the roles you want. A long list of generic courses dilutes the strong entries.
Three paragraphs on the station and one line on what you did. Reviewers are assessing you, not the asset.
If a reviewer cannot tell within ten seconds which reactor types you have worked on, they will assume none of them are relevant.
Say when, for how long, and at what scale. Vague seniority reads as inflated seniority.
A new build programme and a decommissioning site want different halves of your history leading. The order should change even if the content does not.
Site specific acronyms mean nothing to a reviewer at another licensee. Spell them out the first time, every time.
